English Premier League

Manchester United took the lead in the English Premier League for the first time since October 15th.  Defending champion United (21-3-4) has 67 points, one more than City (21-4-3), which is seeking its first league title since 1968. Ten games remain for each team.  United is hoping to extend its record for English league titles to 20.  Both teams have the skill and depth needed to make it all the way but Manchester United looks like the front runner at the moment.

New Face of Golf

Rory McIlroy won the Honda Classic on Sunday by two strokes over Tiger Woods and journeyman Tom Gillis. The victory propelled McIlroy to the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is just the 16th golfer to be No. 1 since the rankings were instituted in 1986. McIlroy, 22, is the second youngest golfer to be ranked No. 1 after Tiger Woods, who was 21 when he first reached the pinnacle of the sport.
The PGA has desperately wanted another golfer to step up and be the man after the Tiger Woods scandal erupted in November, 2009. TV ratings for the sport have suffered the past two years outside of the few times that Tiger Woods has been in contention.

Tiger Woods has been battling more than just personal problems.  He has been dealing with injuries as well.  Its time for him to step aside and make room for the new face of golf, Rory McIlroy

We Are The Titans

The University of Detroit Mercy made it into the NCAA Tournament after a surprising championship win in the Horizon League.  The Titans defeated Valporaiso 70-50 in the conferense championship; a team they lost to twice in the regular season.  All I can say is congratulations UofD and enjoy it while you can.  Your celebrations will be short lived as much as I don't want to believe that.  The Titians enter the tourney as a 15th seed and will go against number 2 seed Kansas Jay Hawks.  The Jay Hawks were a potential 1 seed until their loss in the confrence tournament.  Kansas and Detroit have met three times prior to Friday’s matchup. KU holds a perfect 3-0 record all-time against the Titans with the most recent meeting a 63-43 KU victory in Lawrence on Dec. 28, 2006.

As for now, enjoy the experience Titans.  You've earned it!

NCAA Tourney Snubs

Drexel, Miami (Fla.), Oral Roberts, Seton Hall, Mississippi State, Nevada, and Washington are all schools looking from the outside in.  The NCAA seems like the BCS of college football on a smaller scale.  The big schools get in while the small ones suffer.  Washington has the best argument for being snubbed from the tournament. They won the Pac-12 in the regular season, but because of a quick Pac-12 Tournament exit, they find themselves on the outside looking in. What's most stunning is that Cal, who finished second in the Pac-12, got into a play-in game.  Its hard to agrue for teams that just didn't get it done down the stretch but shouldn't they be rewarded for what they did throughout the season as well?

Western Kentucky who finished 15-18 in the season earned a bid in the tourney.  They will not win a game but teams like Conneticut who won it all last year as a mid level seed, were left out because of their record.  Seton Hall who plays in one of the toughest confrences in the country had a season worthy of atleast a play in game for the tournament but were snubbed as well.  Something just doesnt seem right!

T.J. Ford Retires

T.J. Ford abruptly retired after another scare to his sergically repaired spine.  He already sat out an entire season prior to this injury for a similar injury.  Ford told reporters that lying motionless March 7 on the court against the New York Knicks wasn't the first time it had happened, and he decided to walk away while he still had a chance. He was playing just his 14th game in an injury prone season when Knicks guard Baron Davis elbowed him in the back, knocking him to the ground.

Ford, a family man, decided to walk away from the game while he still could under his own power.  He was a promising young point guard and one heck of a college ball player.  In the end T.J. Ford chose his family and health over his fame and money.  Goodluck to you in the future Mr. Ford.  You were an true professioanl within your organization.

Saints Not So Saintly

Forget that big contract Drew Brees is waiting for.  The New Orleans Saints have a lot bigger fish to worry about.  The allegations of a "bounty program" being ran within the Saints camp the last three seasons has aroused.  Former New Orleans defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and anywhere from 22 to 27 players funded a program in which players were financially rewarded for inflicting injuries on opponents and for knocking them out of the game.  Head coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis are also in the hot seat because they knew about the program and failed to stop it.

The Saints could end up losing valuable draft picks and a whole lot of cash.  Not to mention, the suspensions different players and coaches will have to face.  The league is acting like the Saints defense are the only ones out there that are trying to injure players.  Last time I checked the games about physical play and big hits.  This is why you have your offensive line protecting your guys.  The Saints will get the short end of the straw on this deal though.  The league will set an example with them for actually playing football.

Spoken Like A Wife

Whose to blame for the New England Patriots Super Bowl loss?  Wes Welker dropped a crucial pass down the stretch that would have sealed the win for the New England Patriots.  Lots of people inculding Tom Brady's wife, Gisele Bundchen, blame Welker and other recievers for the loss.  Gisele was caught on tape by theinsider.com saying, "My husband cannot f------ throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."

Gisele, being a supportive wife, backed up her man but faild to realize she created a frenzy for the media.  Backing up your husband is one thing but insulting the whole recieving core of the Patriots is another.  Now Brady will have to do some damage control for his wife.  As an unbiased fan of the game, Brady is as much to blame for the pass to Welker, which wasn't perfectly placed, as much as any other Patriot.  Lets not mention the saftey Brady gave up with led to the Giants first touchdown on top of the free 2 points.
